Simona & I passed over the countless Spring Break trip plans and decided to remain in the Bay Area over Spring Break, seeing as this was our last real opportunity to play tourist before we head to DC this summer.
That plan didn’t last long as we both had this itch to take off. Someone mentioned Big Sur and the idea stuck in our minds. So we put the top down and left on Tuesday morning for a trip down the coast, through Monterey and Big Sur to Santa Barbara along the 1 (a.k.a. the PCH, Cabrillo Highway, or whatever local name it may be called). Despite the late start and untraditional Spring Break trip, we somehow ran into classmates of ours.
On Wednesday afternoon, we ran into one classmate and her sister at the Ventana Inn in Big Sur as we were headed to the upper pool. Delighted, we lounged around the pool and “Japanese Hot Baths,” catching up with our classmate, especially as we haven’t seen her at all this semester. We ran into them again at dinner and at breakfast the next morning, when we parted ways.
Then on late Thursday night, while we were eating dinner along the sidewalk at Carlito’s in Santa Barbara, we saw two other classmates walking down State Street. We had seen the same two in Berkeley the previous Thursday afternoon, so we were very surprised to see them again. These guys were headed north on the 101 from their Spring Break in San Diego and decided to stop in Santa Barbara for the night.
Despite our desire to get away, Simona & I enjoyed the surprise visits and were reminded again how much we will miss our classmates when we move after graduation.
